We may have different views, whether world is functioning properly, whether climate change problem is real or not, whether Facebook is a good thing or not. However, we’d all agree that there are certain thing, that are not perfect in the world we live in.
It might too complicated to comprehend
Eventually - we might watch a documentary and start thinking about how many problems we have in the society. This is so complex and broad set of issues, that can easily make a person uncomfortable about world we live in. It can even make us obsessed about the things that happen in the world.
Being driven by desire for profit
Future generations would face more complicated problems then we have today, different type of problems, but we are not going to sacrifice today for future generations, right? It is the fact, that where we are today - we are thanks to strive for innovation, strive for profit and something better. I do believe that sometimes we do things with pure motives. Open source is one of the good examples for that, creation that people make, not seeking profit.
We are still moving forward
It’s not all hopeless. One thing that I’ve learned from Jewish philosopher Pinchas Polonsky: world is moving forward because we do have respect for humans and value their lives more then in the past. Things to get changed - require years and decades, even centuries. Globally - we have never had as much respect for human life as we have today. And in future - who knows, if might get even better.
Caring about resources
No one would care about minimizing their use of resources if they are easily available. In USA people don’t care about car consumption as much as people in Europe, because fuel prices and car taxes are much higher.
In Sweden people are thought to sort trash in kindergarten, no one there is forced to do it, but this generally works.
Would you?
Would you sort plastic bottles, if you were not have to pay extra deposit for that?
Bible
Bible gave us commandment to take care of the planet where were are and protect it, protect it from ourselves. How well are we doing task, that was given to us? Essentially, when we try to fix global pollution and climate problems we are trying to fulfil that commandment. Unfortunately, as it often happens we act only when it starts to be urgent.
There are people trying to fix things out there
My assumption is that there are people out there that just live their lives. There are people that try to take advantage of other and people, who’s mission and calling is to protect regular people from ones trying to take advantage, protecting sheep from wolves. We might live our lives, with not so many concerns about processes that happen in the world behind the scenes and it’s good. We just need to remember, that if it’s ok now - someone took care of it yesterday. Would we take care of tomorrow?
