No matter how far our wonderful progress has gone - some things remain the same. No matter how smart and digital the world around us becomes, we still have sensory senses and brains.
The brain writes tactilely
There has been a lot of research on how the brain memorizes information better, specifically - what method of writing works better for memorization. Of course - the handwriting method has proven to be more effective. A tactile connection to the fruit of creation - helps us feel that we are real.
The tool as an extension
The artist’s brush is like an extension of the artist that allows him to transfer his creation onto the canvas. The pen is an extension of our brain, allowing us to capture our thoughts in the form of something physical and tangible. Something real and tangible.
The system
Bullet Journal is not just a journal where you have to mold all sorts of beautiful things and then post them on Instagram. The point is that this record keeping is based on a whole philosophy, the author of which describes it in detail in his book. A system to give our brains a crutch to function better in the modern world.
Laziness
One of the key components of Bullet Journal style journaling is regular reviews, morning and evening. When reviewing - a list of tasks for the day is made, literally rewritten. Writing this out by hand is far more labor intensive than simply moving the task from one day to the next. Too lazy to rewrite - maybe the task isn’t really worth it and should just be crossed off the list?
Here and Now
This method of keeping your daily tasks and notes allows you to disconnect from gadgets and be truly in the here and now. In such a moment - thoughts from the back of our minds start to surface and we find new inspirations, remember what we should have done a long time ago and so on. Being in the here and now is a great luxury and an asset in our time, which we unfortunately forget about more and more often.
The author of the book and this method - suffered from Attention Deficit Disorder. Bullet Journal - was a method to help him organize himself, compensating for his weakness. As it happens in life - initially a weakness, if well worked out, can become a strength.
